Telugu music, books for children. [Mar. 24th, 2010|03:50 pm]
Andhraits of the World and Fans

Is there anyone at this community these days?

I am expecting a baby in May! I have asked my mom who will be coming to maybe bring some children books in Telugu and Hindi. But then the books she found are more for 2+ year olds if not older - the folk tales we see in panchatantra, etc. Then I thought some nursery rhymes (music CDs) in Telugu and Hindi.... At least the baby hear some different languages. Again my mom has come to an obstacle.

If you are in Bangalore, would you have any suggestions on where she could get some things along this line? I can't sing and yeah YouTube has probably a lot of things... but we don't really want to be plugging up the laptop next to the crib.

terms of endearment [Feb. 22nd, 2008|10:57 am]

No, not the movie. I was wondering how do you address your significant other in Telugu? My mother addresses dad, sis, and I as "chitti" and sometimes "bujji". But then again, she would address everyone she liked bujji/chitti, and that would be everyone really. There's the traditional "emandi", but I bully my husband too much to address him that way. :D Although, I always pictured that as translating to either, "what's up man?!" or "what did you do now?!" depending on how the spouse says it.

English has sweetie pie, darling, honey, etc. Any in Telugu?

movies movies [Jan. 26th, 2008|06:33 pm]

So.... hubby & I kind of got a craving to watch Telugu movies. And we go to the local Telugu-Indian video shop and always draw a blank. Yesterday though we watched Evadi gola vadadi. We had some good laughs but it was ok. but any suggestions of some good Telugu movies? It can be of any genre.

On the subject of Telugu movies. My favourite one was from back in the 80s. I have forgotten the actor/actress's names and the movie name... The actor was quite the popular one. The story went along the lines of this woman who is a great dancer, taught by her father, but she never appreciates it. A young man, the hero, comes and takes the challenge to make her continue to dance and appreciate the art of it all. Any idea? Would love to watch that again if it still can be found.

Going to AP, planning advice requested [Feb. 22nd, 2007|10:22 am]

[mood |excitedexcited]

Hello everyone! I'm planning my first trip to India (Andhra Pradesh) and would appreciate any advice in terms of planning and travelling that you all can give. I have never been anywhere, so I know I need to get a passport. I believe I will also need a visa. How do you go about getting one? Where do you go? What kind of visa would I need?

What should I expect on that long flight! *giggle* My trip will be this coming December 2007, so I know it's a bit early in planning, but I want to be well prepared by the time I leave. I'm so excited about it! It's been my dream to go to India for years, and finally it's coming true!

I will be meeting my sweetie's family, and many of them don't know any English. What are some Telugu phrases I could use with them? I still haven't had much luck in finding any good learning tools for Telugu.

Thanks all!

native speakers of Telugu please [Dec. 11th, 2006|06:07 pm]
Andhraits of the World and Fans

I am a university student and am taking a field methods class in Telugu and we are currently working on our final project where we have to take data in Telugu and figure out the sentence structure.  We have a little confusion over negation though and need some more data.

Could a native speaker please tell me how you would say these things:

The dog is brown
The dog is not brown
The dog was brown
The dog was not brown
The dog will be brown
The dog will not be brown

The dog barks
The dog is not barking
The dog was barking
The dog was not barking
The dog will bark
The dog will not bark

If anyone could do this for us we would be immensely grateful.  Thank you in advance.
